It starts in childhood
Did you know that authenticity is a survival need?
I learned about it recently in a talk between Gabor Maté and Tim Ferriss, which you can watch here.
Gabor explains that we have two fundamental needs in childhood (01:32:56):
1️⃣ The need for attachment: being close with other human beings for the sake of being looked after. We have to attach and connect to others, otherwise we are not able to survive as a child.
2️⃣ The need for authenticity: being connected to ourselves and our gut feeling, knowing what we feel and being able to act upon it, to express ourselves as we are.
⚡ When we sense our need for attachment (which is a non-negotiable need) might be threatened by our authenticity, by being ourselves fully and completely, we suppress it. We suppress our emotions, our gut feeling, our authentic way of being so that we can survive in that moment.
Over time, this is how we can lose connection to ourselves and our gut feelings, our intuition. We give up our authenticity and then later in life may end up asking ourselves who we really are.
Maybe even: How did I end up here? Is this really what I want? Whose life am I living?
I could very much relate to what Gabor was saying. For a long time, I was thinking I don’t have any intuition or gut feeling. But it’s not true. We all have it, it just may take some healing and reconnection to ourselves to be able to hear it and trust it.
And as you can imagine, I was really happy to hear that he mentions EFT tapping as one modality that helps us reconnect to ourselves and our body. To heal and recover from trauma. (01:05:44)
Thank you for being here. 💙
Sending you much love,

💬 I interviewed with Sara, Burnout and Stress Coach.
The tech gods were not in our favor which is why the video quality is not so good, but our conversation was highly inspiring. Sara has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Burnout and Stress reduction through yoga and consistent morning routines. 🥰
